As the infomercial says, it’s about intensity, it’s about bringing it, it’s about finding out who you are - it’s about P90X. This as-seen-on-TV extreme fitness plan is no joke. In just 90 days, you’ll work yourself into the best shape of your life, without ever having to set foot inside a gym. P90X claims to burn fat and sculpt your body from head to toe, regardless of gender or age, through a rigorous training program and a structured diet complete with vital supplements. Tony Horton, the man behind P90X, says his home workout program relies on “muscle confusion,” which is just his way of saying that you’ll do one type of exercise one day and then a completely different type of exercise the next so that your muscles don’t get too comfortable, resulting in that dreaded plateau effect. For $140 you get 12 DVDs, which you’ll do for an hour a day six days a week. And then you’ll need to spend a few extra bucks for things like dumbbells, resistance bands, a pull up bar and a sturdy chair, if you don’t already have those things. The intense hour-long workouts include core exercises, lower-body strength-training, yoga techniques and cardio routines that all help reduce body fat and build lean muscle mass. It helps that you can do P90X in the comfort of your own home, but unless you commit to the program from start to finish, you won’t see results. Even though you need to work out for just one hour a day, some people have trouble fitting it into their schedules. But those who do are almost always satisfied with the lean muscular body they have as a result.
