If you're like most people, the minute you hear the word "ThighMaster" you think of Suzanne Somers in a neon leotard "squeeze...squeezing her way to shapely hips and thighs!" Or maybe that's just me? Well, whether you associate the tool with the bubbly blond actress or not, remember that the ThighMaster may in fact be a bonafide piece of fitness equipment. Thighmaster relies on the resistance that comes from two foam-covered pieces of stainless steel attached to an egg-sized plastic ball. It claims to tone both the inner and outer thigh muscles. After about 20 minutes, you'll begin to feel the burn. Just don't expect the ThighMaster to help you drop pounds or reduce body fat specifically in your hips and thighs. You'll have to commit to a cardio routine and a balanced diet to see those results, but the ThighMaster can help you tone the hip and thigh muscles in region that many women call their problem area. But as with any piece of fitness equipment, if you don't use it properly, you won't see the results or, even worse, you risk injury like a pulled muscle. And trust me; you don't want to limp around all day with a pulled inner-thigh muscle. Plus, you always have the option of toning your legs without ordering a $15 ThighMaster. If you want to work the muscles on the inside of your upper thigh, try hip adductions. You just need two small towels and a little space on a non-carpeted surface. Simply kneel on the floor with your torso held upright and each knee on one of the towels. Start with your thighs close together and then push your knees out as far as you can, the towels will allow you to slide easier. Pause there, and then pull your knees back together. You'll start to feel the burn after 8-10 reps. If owning a Thighmaster means you're more likely to fit in some resistance training, then it may be worth it for you. At the same time, any experienced fitness professional would be happy to help you find the best exercises for every part of your body.
